Hosting question

We're looking at electroserver and are pretty excited about it. We're looking for a host.

We wanted it to be windows based because that's what we are familiar with. We were thinking of using EC2 so we can scale up the box if (when) we get more users.

Are there any pitfalls with running electroserver on EC2? It looks like that would be a perfectly good choice for hosting.

How many concurrent users are you planning to have on your ES5? Linux performs better than Windows, and is more stable. EC2 with Windows will work just fine for smaller numbers of users but won't scale into tens of thousands for you. There are a few tips for EC2 in Installing to a Remote Linux Server that are relevant even if it's Windows.

We use EC2 (Linux) for the server that hosts this website, forum, and the ES5 that backs our live examples. We used Softlayer for our load tests, because it gives better performance.

We get $10/month per user, so if we had tens of thousands of users we would just buy a whole bunch of of electroserver copies .

Really, we're looking at hundreds, maybe a thousand users. If we go large I'd investigate using Linux.
