New user: How to run RealtimeTankGame example?

    Hi,

I'm a new ElectroServer user and I'm wondering how I can run the RealtimeTankGame example. I have my ES5 running in its default settings on Windows XP and have confirmed it's working by following the AS3 SimpleChat & CursorsGoneWild tutorials.

    Thanks for your help!

    Abel.

You will need to compile the extension, deploy it and make both GMSInitializer and TimeStampPlugin server level components. See:

    Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately, I still can't get the example to work.

When I check the Server Extensions tab it shows 'TankGame' in the drop down menu and under Components it lists 'TimeStampPlugin' and 'GMSInitializer'.

But when I run the TankGame.swf (from 'game_examples\RealtimeTankGame\client\bin\'), I just see a blank screen.

I run the Server in Safemode and nothing appears in the log when I run the app. I have checked the settings.xml and it has the exact same (default) settings as the xml file I used for my tutorials.

Do you know what might be the problem?

    Thanks again,

    Abel.

Try putting the SimpleChat swf into the same folder as TankGame and see if that works. If it doesn't, then either there's a problem with your settings.xml file or else you need to adjust the Flash global security settings to allow sockets from that area of your hard drive.

If it does work but TankGame still doesn't, make sure that you are running ES5.0.1. There was a bug in ES5.0.0 that caused a server side error for TankGame.

Let me know if none of these work. The only time I get a blank screen from running TankGame.swf from that folder is if I don't have settings.xml pointing to the correct IP and port or if my ES5 isn't running. If the problem is with the server level components then I can still log in, but the map doesn't appear.

Ahhh it was the Flash Player Security issue... Terribly user unfriendly design from their side if you ask me...

Thanks a lot Theresa! I'm enjoying ElectroServer a lot!
