    Electroserver hosting?

Hi, I've seen some older posts about Electroserver hosting--I've looked at Mediatemple, Webgamehost, and Flashtampa, However, all of their websites do not have that much info, they don't have blogs, don't have user comments, the copyright dates are usually from a few years ago, so it's hard to get an idea of if they are active, if users are satisfied with their services, etc. Are these companies still around, has anyone had experience with them lately, have any reviews, etc? Are there any other alternatives? Thanks!

Amazon EC2 works well and is a reasonable price (not cheap but reasonable). I haven't used any of the others myself.

    Hi Teresa,
I looked at Amazon EC2, and it seems like it would work, but how do you install Electroserver there? You just upload the electroserver.exe file to your AMI and run the installer? Is it the same as having a dedicated server? Aren't they worried about the security issues that all of the conventional dedicated server providers are? Do you actually have your own AMI set up with Amazon EC2, and that electroserver is working on?

    Thank you very much,

    Andy

I just used wget to get the installer and then ran it. Our load tests were done using SoftLayer which has much better performance than Amazon. Dedicated servers are good for production servers - what we have running on electrotank.com is acceptable because we don't have much traffic on our ES5.

See Installing to a Remote Linux Server for ways that you could install to Amazon EC2 or SoftLayer or some other Linux box. It's pretty easy after you get used to doing it - first couple of times is always confusing.
