Local install - standalone not connected

I've installed to xp with defaults. Can start es successfully (as noted in the dos window). I can connect to admin at port 8080.

    BUT

I get "Standalone not connected" in admin window, and when attempt to run examples, via flash -

C:\Program Files\ElectroServer_4_0_5\examples\ConnectAndLogin \client\ActionScript3\src\ConnectAndLogin.fla (opened directly in flash, should not have security issues)

    I get

"Attempting connection with this ip/port combo: 127.0.0.1:9898
    Connection failed: FailedToConnect"

If I change xml to what looks like unused ports, get the same. (looking for ports with dos 'netstat -a')

If I change xml to ports 8080, 8080 I get:

Attempting connection with this ip/port combo: 127.0.0.1:8080

And it just sits there stalled.

I am trying to do everything with simplest defaults to see if I can get a connection, but apparently I am missing something key...

    Ideas?

    Thanks

Well, it took 3 uninstalls and installs and then it worked! What changed? No idea.
