taking electroserver off local, and xml question
hi everyone,
iv just a few quick questions to put to you. im about to take my program out of the comfortable local environment and bring it out into the big bad world. the story is, i have three computers which will be connected to each other on a lan, with a version of my program on each. my questions are thus:
1: which computer do i run electroserver on, or do i run it on all three? if the case is just one, what sort of settings do the ip and port values need to be? will one of the computers be running the 127.0.0.1 9875 figures, and the others connecting to that computers ip? how do i find out the settings to put it at and do i need something to give them permanent ip addresses, or will the address always be the same? dont really use pcs that much so not really sure
2: is it possible to use electroserver in some way to save .xml files? one of the features in my program prints out the xml code to make a playlist, but currently the users needs to copy this out and save it manually in wordpad or something, then update another xml file that houses the names of all the playlists. i know flash cant save files itself, tho in the administrator folder that comes with electorserver there's a rather cool looking swf that saves configuration.xml, so i was wondering how that was done
3: if the gameMaster closes his program, does electroserver automatically configure the next person to join the server as the gameMaster or do i need to do that manually? and is it possible to change the assignedNumber that electroserver gives the user, ie: if the gameMaster closes his window, then the user with the assignedNumber of 1 becomes the gameMaster and his number changes to 0 and so on down the line
if anyone can shed some light on these questions, one or all, id really appreciate it. thanks
