I added in an extension that has an error in it and now i cant seem to kill the error/delete the server side plugin (so I can install it again)... Is there a way to do this manually?

If you are running ES5.1 (with the ES5.1 ES Admin, not an earlier one) you should be able to get into the ES Admin and delete the extension even if the server doesn't start up properly. I remember testing by manually deleting an extension folder that had a server level component, restarting ES5, then doing that. Don't try to delete the server level component, just delete the entire extension. Then restart ES5 to make sure it starts cleanly, and finally deploy the fixed one.
If that doesn't work, let me know, because we need to know about that kind of "gah you mean I have to manually edit the database????" bug.

I'm using 5.1.1 with 5.1 ESAdmin. I remove the plugin, reboot the ES server, then relaunch ESAdmin and it is still referencing the plugin.
Do you have documentation on manually removing the plugin?

Yes it still references the plugin, however if you go to the Extensions tab and choose that extension from the combobox, you should be able to click the Trash icon next to it to remove it from the database. Then restart ES5 again.
